Use reference – 10 Day Drawing Challenge

Are you ready to start DAY 4 of my 10 day Drawing Challenge? Cool let’s do it!

The theme of today is: Don’t be afraid to use reference.

Yes I said it! Using reference for your drawing is not cheating! Every professional artist and I mean it, uses reference be it from real life, pictures or even from other artist’s work.

It’s simply the way it goes. Ideas are not born in a vacuum and being able to access a vast collection of reference images is the critical fuel your brain needs to come up with new and interesting ones.

I am not talking about copying someone else’s ideas or violating copyright obviously instead using whatever means necessary to draw inspiration from and use reference as a powerful tool to forge your own vision and visualize new concepts and artistic ideas.

I bet you already know what the challenge for today is…

So, for this challenge, I’d like you to pick up a reference image, maybe from my Pinterest page (which you should totally follow by the way) and change it into something different.

You might change it a little or a lot, it’s up to you, but I want you to focus on the procedure of acquiring a reference image and consciously using it to create something original, something new like in the example below:

When you are done you can  upload your finished drawing in the comment section below for everyone to see (and for me too).

Oh! And don’t forget you can always get in touch with me for ideas or if you are having problems with this challenge.

You can follow and message me on my Facebook page, or you can watch my series of YouTube video lessons and tutorials or you can simply contact me directly.

You are all set! Good luck with Day 4 Drawing Challenge.
