Are you ready to start DAY 6 of my 10 day Drawing Challenge? Cool let’s do it!
The theme of today is: Learn from the masters.
Before I even start, allow me to remind you that these challenges are, well, challenges, and are designed to try and push you out of your comfort zone. You do not have to be perfect, it’s find if you find them difficult, your drawings can be messy, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that you understand the principle and do your best. Now shall we begin!
Once Picasso famously said ‘Good artists borrow, great artists steal’!
He obviously didn’t mean it literally, what I believe he meant was that great artists really understand what makes other artworks really amazing and are then able to inject that knowledge and information into their own art to create amazing artworks.
I love to copy and draw artworks from my favourite artists and I bet that you do to.
So for this day challenge I am going to be asking you to copy your favourite artist but really try to pay attention to the hows and whys of the drawing you are copying.
Try to crack the code that’s underneath that artwork. What is it that makes it so compelling to you? Is it the composition, the colour choice, the character design, the painting technique, a combination of many things maybe, you be the judge.
Understand, internalize and re-use this is the challenge for today.
You don’t have a favourite artist to copy? No problem I have got you covered!
I have prepared a collection of really amazing illustrations on my page on Pinterest (which you should totally follow for a daily dose of artistic inspiration by the way) to get your artistic juices flowing.
So you have no excuses now.
When you are done you can upload your finished drawing in the comment section below for everyone to see (and for me too).
Oh! And don’t forget you can always get in touch with me for ideas or if you are having problems with this challenge.
You are all set! Good luck with Day 6 Drawing Challenge.
